I qualified from Leeds University Medical School in 1992. After my pre-registration year working at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary and the Royal Halifax Infirmary I joined the Huddersfield GP Training Scheme completing this in 1996 and then successfully passed the MRCGP. I joined Skelmanthorpe Family Doctors in 2000. My areas of interest within the Practice are Palliative Care and Mental Health. I also perform some joint injections.

I am originally from Southport, Merseyside and studied at Leeds University from 1993 - 1998. Having decided to stay in West Yorkshire, I initially did surgical training in Leeds and Airedale before switching to GP training. I did my training posts in Calderdale and Huddersfield hospitals as well as Kirkburton and Sowerby Bridge practices. I was delighted to be offered the position of Partner at Skelmanthorpe Family Doctors in 2003 and have remained here since. From 2014 - 2021 I was the Chair of the Greater Huddersfield CCG and still have a keen interest in clinical leadership. I am currently the Clinical Director for The Mast Primary Care Network and a Primary Care Advisor to the North East and Yorkshire Region Diagnostics Board.

As a GP, I specialise in Minor Surgery, Diabetes and am the Practice Safeguarding Lead for adults and children.

I qualified as a Doctor in 2003 from The University of Sheffield. I carried out my Pre-registration house jobs in Huddersfield before going on to train as a GP on the Wakefield and Pontefract GP training scheme, working as a registrar in Almshouse Medical Centre in Wakefield and Tieve Tara Medical Centre in Castleford. I worked as a salaried GP in Golcar before becoming a Partner here in Skelmanthorpe in 2012. During this time I have also worked as a speciality doctor in Contraception and Sexual Health for Locala in and around Kirklees. I was Clinical Director of The Mast PCN between 2019 and 2023. My special interests as a GP include Contraception and all aspects of Womens Health.

Our Advanced Nurse and Clinical Practitioners provide care similar to a GP, assessing, diagnosing and treating a wide range of illnesses and health conditions. Our Nursing Associate supports the nursing team by carrying out health checks, wound care, blood sampling, ECGs and providing certain vaccinations. They also undertake dermatoscope appointments and support patients with pre-diabetes through ongoing monitoring and advice on healthy lifestyle choices, helping to reduce the risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

The Practice Manager is responsible for the smooth and efficient running of the practice, supporting the delivery of high quality patient care. They oversee the day to day operations of the practice, including the non clinical team and work closely with the clinical team to support staff and ensure services operate effectively. Their responsibilities include staffing, finance, premises management, operational planning and service development. They also work closely with local NHS organisations, including Integrated Care Boards (ICBs) and Primary Care Networks (PCNs), to support the continued development and improvement of practice services.

The Reception/Administration Manager oversees the day to day running of the reception team, supporting staff and ensuring reception and telephone services operate smoothly and efficiently. They provide training and guidance, oversee clinical rotas and appointment scheduling, manage workloads and help resolve any issues that may arise. Working closely with the wider practice team, they help maintain high standards of service and ensure patients receive a friendly, professional and efficient experience.

Our Administrator works behind the scenes to support the smooth and efficient running of the practice, completing and processing a wide range of administrative tasks while also supporting reception duties. They assist the management team with additional responsibilities as required, helping to ensure the practice runs effectively. They play an important role in supporting the wider practice team and maintaining high standards of service for our patients.

The practice also employs a Data Clerk who helps manage patient recalls and follow up tasks, including repeat tests, drug monitoring, postnatal appointments and tests or appointments requested by hospitals, GPs and other healthcare services. They help ensure patients are contacted and necessary follow up is arranged. The Administrator also assists with these tasks when required.

The practice also employs a Medical Summariser who reviews patients' medical records and summarises relevant medical history, diagnoses, medications and other clinical information. This helps ensure patient records are accurate and up to date.

Manpreet is our Advanced Clinical Practitioner & Lead Clinical Pharmacist, supporting patients with a range of health conditions. He can assess symptoms, diagnose and treat certain illnesses, prescribe medication and manage long term conditions. He also leads our pharmacy team, helping to ensure safe and effective prescribing.

Sadia is our Clinical Pharmacist and supports patients with medication queries, medication reviews and long term conditions. She provides advice on medicines, side effects and prescribing, helping patients get the most out of their treatment and ensuring their medication is safe and effective.

Marcelle is our Pharmacy Technician and supports patients with repeat prescriptions, medication queries, dosages and side effects. She provides advice on using medicines safely, including new or high risk medications and works with our Clinical Pharmacists to help ensure patients receive appropriate care.

Our midwifery service is provided by Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Trust, with antenatal clinics held at Skelmanthorpe Surgery.

We recommend selecting Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Trust as your preferred maternity trust or hospital when registering. If you wish to choose a different trust or hospital after, please discuss this with your midwife when they contact you.

Once your pregnancy has been registered, your midwife will contact you to arrange your first appointment and complete the necessary booking forms. Further appointments will then be arranged as part of your antenatal care.

The Community Nurses provide nursing care to patients in their own homes, including those who are housebound, elderly, recovering from hospital treatment or requiring palliative care. They offer support with wound care, diabetes, medication, continence, catheter care and other nursing needs. They also support patients and carers with managing care at home, promoting independence and helping to prevent unnecessary hospital admissions.

The Health Visiting Team provides support and advice to families during pregnancy and until children reach five years old. They help parents with their child’s health, growth and development, offer guidance on family wellbeing and provide advice to support children in their early years. They work with families in their homes and community settings to promote healthy development and help identify any additional support needed.

Through the Mast Health Partnership, our surgery has access to a wider team of healthcare professionals who provide additional support with physical health, mental wellbeing and social needs. These staff work alongside our practice team to help patients access the right advice, care and services to meet their individual needs.

Matthew our Health & Wellbeing Coach, supports people with long term health conditions to improve their health and wellbeing through advice on nutrition, exercise, weight management, smoking cessation and healthier lifestyle choices. He also supports mental wellbeing and delivers group education sessions.

Roger is our Care Coordinator and supports people with complex needs, long term conditions or frailty. He helps coordinate personalised care and works with patients, families and healthcare professionals. He can also help with benefits, mobility aids, housing adaptations, physiotherapy and social support.

Joanne is our Social Prescribing Link Worker and supports people with housing, financial difficulties, benefits, low level mental wellbeing concerns, loneliness, social connections, volunteering, employment, learning disabilities and carer related needs.

Victoria is our Mental Health Social Prescribing Link Worker and supports people with new or long term mental health conditions, including depression and anxiety. She helps connect people with community resources and specialist services, working with other professionals and agencies to ensure appropriate support is in place.
